Bachelor of Social Science in Criminology
Elizabeth Maloney, BSocSc in Criminology (Hons) 2004
Recipient of the Insight Group Prize for Honours in Social Science 2004
Research Officer, National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre
I completed my honours year in 2004 in Social Science (Criminology) and began working as a research officer at the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre almost immediately after completing my thesis. I believe I would never have been offered a job of this nature had I not undertaken an honours year. Not only did the honours year prove to be strongly associated to the prospects of securing a job in the field of my choice, but it provided me with the ability to put all the skills I learnt throughout the degree and complete a research project which I am truly proud of. I was able to construct a research project, with the guidance of my supervisor, completely from scratch, and produce a thesis of substantial quality. I would honestly recommend the honours year at the School of Social Science and Policy to anyone with a keen interest in research and policy development.
